When you’re on your Dashboard you’ll see something labeled QuickPress. QuickPress is exactly as it sounds, a quick way to write your latest post without having to click on “Posts” – “Add New.” There is 1 major drawback to QuickPress, however, the inability to categorize your post. If you are using a lot of categories to organize your posts I would strongly urge you not to use QuickPress. If you’re writing something that doesn’t fall into a category then QuickPress will be fine.

P.S. You can always rename your “uncategorized” category in “Posts” – Categories” to whatever you want so all posts written in QuickPress will automatically post to your newly renamed category.

You also lose out on the ability to bold, italicize, bullet, etc. QuickPress is great for on the go writing. Let’s say you just watched some new poker show on television and want to write about what a dumb move some guy made and how he sucked out on your favorite player. Unless you have a category titled “poker shows” this would fall under the uncategorized section of your site and would be the perfect example of when to use QuickPress.
